ECLYPSE INVITES: CZN

We’re really excited to offer you a taste of our freshly-added resident CZN. In his typical fashion he brought a very intense set characterized by the a violent, harsh and sharp sound that will pierce your ears. His music style draws inspiration from the most disturbing and unsettling content out there, blending elements from horror movies and metal bands, with the goal of bringing you down in his twisted world.
Today he takes the 39th episode of the ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series

ECLYPSE: What is your name, age, and where are you from?

My name is Viktor St-Hilaire, my age is unknown and I am from Montreal, Canada but I was born in Guatemala.

Downtown Montreal at dusk, Quebec, Canada

ECLYPSE: What inspired you to produce/DJ and when did you start?

My djing journey started a little bit more than a decade ago after being a huge fan of DJ BL3ND sets on YouTube around 2010-2011, then the rest is pretty much history. I had different aliases throughout the years where I was playing different styles ranging from deep house to minimal techno, hybrid trap, experimental music, a bit of neurofunk/dnb and my all time love: Dubstep (the heavier side of the genre).

I’d say that I’ve “officially” started making my own music mid pandemic (end of 2021) after being kinda in a slump as an artist as I didn’t know which direction to take since I’ve touched a lot of different styles of music. It’s only after hearing “Red Bunker” by 6EJOU for the first time that I was like “damn I didn’t know techno could be THIS hard” then one thing led to another and we are, almost 3 years later cooking some face smashing kickdrums.

ECLYPSE: Who are the Producers and DJs you are looking the most up to?

As far as music producers goes I’d say “RZVX”, “D|K|OKY”, “Code: Pandorum”, “Qoiet”, “The Outside Agency”, “Ayarcana”, “White Eyes”, “DRAAG” (just to name a few).

I also draw inspiration from horror movie sound composers such as “Charlie Clouser” (SAW, American Horror Story OST, Resident Evil: Extinction), “Christopher Young” (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil, Drag Me To Hell), “John Carpenter” (Halloween, The Fog).

Then with no surprise, metal music is also a big part of my creative process with og bands like “Suicide Silence” (mitch lucker era), “Slipknot” (iowa era), “Lorna Shore” (cj mccreery era), “Nails”, “Aborted”, “Emmure” etc… and fairly newer bands too such as “Organectomy”, “Peacemaker”, “Paleface Swiss”, “Knoll”, “Nylist” (a one man band project), “Larcenia Roe” etc… There’s honestly so much artists / bands absolutely KILLING IT man.

ECLYPSE: What are your expectations for 2025?

For my part I’d say to keep putting out some good sh*t then for the rest of my peers and artists within the scene I’d wish for them nothing else but support, compassion and love.

Oh and DO NOT STEAL KICKS make your own by experimenting and having fun

ECLYPSE: Do you think Techno as a genre has evolved in the past years?

I guess it depends on how you view the scene or where you stand towards it because on one hand you have veterans throwing in the towel or literally switching up style due to the state of the scene “soiled” by this hardtechno-tiktok generation infected with psy, hardcore fakeouts vs there’s so much underground / underrated artists popping out every week. So my opinion lies in a grey zone of everything I just said.

ECLYPSE: How is your local DJ scene?

Let’s say the scene here in Montreal for the kind of music that I make is unfortunately close to non-existent (in the exception for a VERY FEW organizers putting underground shows here and there)

Thank you so much for accepting ECLYPSE’s invite, we are looking forward to promoting your music in the future on our label, we are honored to have you here!
