ECLYPSE INVITES: LIKIKON

We are excited to finally be able to offer you the South American sound. And we do it in the best way with an artist who has been in the mixes of worldwide DJs and top labels for years. He would need no introduction because you should all know him, but if not, we recommend you check out his production IMMEDIATELY.
His tracks combine power and raw, unsettling noises, but he does it so well that instead of scaring us, he always gives us goosebumps. Mission failed successfully.
For the 33rd chapter of the ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series we welcome Likikon

ECLYSE: What is your name, age, and where are you from?

My name is Cristian and my project is called Likikon, same as the nickname I always used when I started playing online videogames around 20 years ago. I’m 32 years old and I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela. About 7-8 years ago I migrated from there to several other countries and after some stops along the way I finally found my place in Chile, where the lovely people and culture made me feel the most comfortable

ECLYPSE: What inspired you to produce and when did you start?

At first I was motivated by one of my best friends that owns a well known underground event called Circuito Integrado which cultural main focus was giving a safe space to social dissidences and underground talents that otherwise would not have any kind of access to the scene due to mostly gatekeeping and closed elitist groups.

Having access to DJ gear owned by them and being around it made me interested in the whole mixing thing. After a couple of months of just having it as a hobbie I got inspired to chase this career path by a duo of DJ and producers called ODY.SSEY, who had a very particular sound that resonated with me a lot and made me 100% sure that this is what I wanted to do.

At first it was only DJing, but after about 2 years of it I started looking into production and I found my own sound identity, also thanks t the motivation received from a lot by close friends such as ARDX, Kask4r, MARNEGRO and other members of the local scene. During this journey I met amazing people like Spktr0, Shpshft, Noork, Mary-B and 19.85, who all somehow have shaped me both as an artist and personally in very different ways

ECLYPSE: Who are the Producers and DJs you are looking the most up to?

From my local scene as mentioned before, Spktr0, ARDX, Kask4r, MARNEGRO, Aldes, Noork & ODY.SSEY amongst many others.

From the international scene there are so many but some of them are: G3anxln, Parapher, Rikther, CEKTA and Vrodak.

And last but not least I want to also mention the labels that are currently leading the scene and feature some of my works: 96noisia, Sunthoid & KIBERNET KRIMINALITÄT. They are very inspirational in terms of production and in shaping and guiding our dear Blackout Collective, label and event organizer that is growing a lot hitting solid numbers and with a loyal community.
We are very proud of these accomplishments

ECLYPSE: What are your expectations for the rest of 2024?

Well, this 2024 has been full of amazing things so far, I shared the cabin with Sorenga and met incredible people like BSLS who became a good friend and big inspiration. I have big releases coming: a full EP on Mass London called Moral Bankruptcy, another EP on December on Xenia’s new label called Fire mode, which has already had so many talented artists that it is insane to be invited to be a part of it🩸

Hopefully next year I’ll be able to start planning a Europe tour to finally get to know the scene face to face. There’s no rush on that because my main focus is still producing music, a process that I enjoy way too much. It would be difficult to stop doing it just for the sake of traveling.

ECLYPSE: Do you think Techno as a genre has evolved in the past years?

I don’t consider myself someone that knows enough about the global Techno scene (or music in general) to answer properly as
I’ve been only knowing it for about 5 years at most. I didn’t have any engagement with music or any other art form besides cooking before DJing. One thing I can say about it is that the techno scene is very rich in personality and passion, you just have to look in the right places. Social media might deceive you into believing that everything is superficial, but the reality is that superficiality has always been there, it’s just more visible now.
Search in the right places and you’ll find amazing artists and scenes everywhere

ECLYPSE: How is your local DJ scene?

Our local DJ scene here in Santiago is small but fast growing. Everyday you can see new events and people trying to form some type of collective scene, not many last and not many are solid but several stand out and have created communities that are giving it all to keep going, deliver quality shows and environments.

There are also so many Industrial Hardtechno artists that are creating waves globally with their work from Chile! That is something special we all are very proud of

Thank you so much for accepting ECLYPSE’s invite, we are looking forward to promoting your music in the future on our label, we are honored to have you here!
