For the 29th chapter of the ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series we are very excited to share this space with a talented Cypriot DJ. Her artistic name is MavrU and if you haven’t heard from her yet you are missing a lot. Her passion for hard kicks combined with an extra pinch of boldness create an interesting base. Add a literal wave of enthusiasm for everything she does and you’ll obtain an intriguing mix of qualities that makes her sets special.
Expect the same in this case, with fast paced tracks taking turns with pounding kicks to deliver the right amount of energy throughout the whole hour.
ECLYPSE: What is your name, age, and where are you from?
My name is Elia, I am 22 years old and i am from beautiful Cyprus, currently based in the Netherlands.
ECLYPSE: What inspired you to DJ and when did you start?
Techno captured my attention at an early age (I’d say since I was 13-14 years old), it was interesting as a genre and I enjoyed listening to it from time to time. Then I started getting into forest psy, dark psy and hightech and was focused there for some time. Forest psy was also the very first genre I played once I got my equipment in 2021. However, I felt that style didn’t allow me to express myself fully, I was missing something from that genre even though I really loved the natural elements it brought out.
So I started experimenting with Industrial techno about a year and a half ago and it was from there that I truly felt fullfilled. It lets me express myself to the fullest and i find myself completely immersed in the sounds I play. Industrial is the starting point and I’m not just going to limit myself to that, I would also love to experiment with other genres as well in both production and DJing
I am still not a producer as I am juggling between finishing my studies and DJing, but I am currently experimenting with production. I am not going to rush it as I want to find the sound that suits me at 100%
ECLYPSE: Who are the Producers and DJs you are looking the most up to?
There are so many producers and DJs I look up to. For starters, I absolutely admire MMCCCXCIX (live). He is really one of a kind in the scene and I am more and more fascinated every time I watch him perform live. I could talk about him for days haha.
Another amazing producer who is an inspiration to me is Gulag. His sound is so unique and so different from everything else I’ve heard so far. Lastly, a DJ I admire is 5ki11z and I have learnt a lot from him throughout my journey. His mixing skills are insane.
ECLYPSE: What are your expectations for 2024?
In 2024, I aim to discover my unique sound in music production and achieve significant growth as an artist. My primary goal is to push myself to excel in every aspect of my work, with a special focus on music. I have numerous plans and projects for the future, and I’m so excited to immerse myself in these new experiences and challenges
ECLYPSE: Do you think Techno as a genre has evolved in the past years?
I do believe that it has evolved, mostly in terms of the continuous development of its subgenres and how much techno has expanded throughout the world. However, in terms of parties/ ‘raves’, I believe that promoters should curate more diverse lineups and hand out opportunities to new, upcoming artists and not for example, just ‘trending’ artists that have big numbers
ECLYPSE: How is your local DJ scene?
Everytime someone who is not from Cyprus asks me this question, they don’t believe me when I start bragging about how much energy Cypriots have on the dancefloor. Literally, one of the best dancers I have ever seen. We dance non-stop. I have been to many parties outside of Cyprus but nothing compares to our crowd in my opinion. Our local artists are also beyond talented and never fail to deliver the best music. If you want to see how we do things in Cyprus, you should definitely visit a 565r party, as well as a Cyraveland (CYPRUS RAVE COMMUNITY) party. You will not regret it
