Today’s guest is a musical work in progress. He has a vision and he is trying to make it a reality that we can all enjoy. But all good things can’t be achieved immediately so in the meantime he brings his rumbling industrial techno sets through the Netherlands.
Let’s welcome SOBER as the 28th artist featured in the ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series!
ECLYPSE: What is your name, age, and where are you from?
My artistic name is SOBER, I’m a 24 years old DJ from the Netherlands. Born and raised in Zoetermeer, a city close to The Hague and Rotterdam.
If you’re wondering why I’ve chosen such an unusual nickname, it’s because it represents my approach to DJing: I am literally always SOBER and never use drugs at all. Moreover, I want to make a statement that people shouldn’t associate drugs with our beloved techno/industrial.

ECLYPSE: What inspired you to produce and when did you start?
Producing is actually something I am still learning every day. I know how to make hard techno and basic industrial tracks, but I aim to create a new genre. When I was young, classical music always did something to me. Then, growing up, industrial techno took that role, so my goal is to combine these two genres. I already have created a few tracks but they’re all unreleased because I’m not 100% convinced of posting them. Some of the people who attended my gigs have listened to them as I took advantage of those opportunities to test the waters.
ECLYPSE: Who are the Producers and DJs you are looking the most up to?
In general I would say Frédéric Chopin and Sofiane Pamart. Chopin because of the emotions he puts into his music and Sofiane Pamart because of the combination with piano and hip-hop. In this scene, I would mention Parapher and MMCCCXCIX. These two producers always come up with new concepts and ideas and they feel free to create what they want.
ECLYPSE: What are your expectations for 2024?
2024 has been an insane year so far: I’ve had my first international booking and my first festival. As for my expectations for the future, it is difficult to say, but I surely want to bring my sound to another level. And I want to keep pushing the message that you don’t need anything like drugs to enjoy our music
ECLYPSE: Do you think Techno as a genre has evolved in the past years?
Oh it has clearly evolved. When I started listening to techno everyone thought it was strange and way too hard, while now you’re strange if you don’t listen to it. Its leap in popularity has been huge
ECLYPSE: How is your local DJ scene?
It’s mpressive. There are so many talents in the Netherlands. There are the best events and locations and the producers are simply too good. I’d love to see more people enjoying bochka/industrial, but on the other hand I enjoy a smaller though closer community
Thank you so much for accepting ECLYPSE’s invite, we are looking forward to promoting your music in the future on our label, we are honored to have you here!
