ECLYPSE INVITES: PURP aka 909606

Today we return to a country whose musical offerings in terms of techno are very diverse and promising: Tunisia. Our guest is PURP and he is ready to show us his art in the 21st set of the ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series.

ECLYPSE: What is your name, age, and where are you from?

My name is Rami, and I go by the stage names PURP or 909606. I am 22 years old and originally from Tunisia, a country with a rich cultural heritage that deeply influences my music.

ECLYPSE: What inspired you to produce and when did you start?

I began my journey into music production three years ago. The decision to start producing music stemmed from a desire to express myself and transform negative emotions into something creative and powerful. Over the last year, I’ve found a particular passion for hard techno and industrial music. These genres allow me to convey intense emotions and energy, and they have become my preferred means of artistic expression. The raw, gritty sounds and driving rhythms provide a perfect canvas for channeling the bad vibes that inspired me to start this journey.

ECLYPSE: Who are the Producers and DJs you are looking up to the most?

There are countless producers and DJs I admire and learn from. I believe that to truly understand the art, one must listen to a wide range of creators. However, a few have had a particularly profound impact on me. Key and Gier are two such figures. Their innovative approaches to music production and their ability to evoke deep emotions through their tracks have been a significant source of inspiration for me. Their work encourages me to experiment and push the boundaries of my own music.

ECLYPSE: What are your expectations for 2024?

Looking ahead to 2024, my primary goal is to create a significant number of tracks, collaborating with various labels to expand my reach. I want to explore new soundscapes and refine my style, making my music even more impactful and engaging. Additionally, I hope to travel more and connect with other artists and fans worldwide. By performing live and participating in different events, I aim to bring my music to life and build a stronger connection with the global techno community. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the scene and ensure that my music resonates on a deeper level with listeners.

ECLYPSE: Do you think Techno as a genre has evolved in the past years?

Techno has indeed undergone substantial evolution in recent years. There’s a wave of new producers who are infusing the genre with fresh perspectives and innovative sounds. This evolution is evident in the diversity and complexity of tracks being released today. In Tunisia, the techno scene is also experiencing growth. Artists like Skoutchi, Warhead and many others are making significant contributions, creating music that stands out on both a local and international level. It’s an exciting time for techno, as the genre continues to expand and diversify, bringing in new fans and fostering a dynamic creative environment.

ECLYPSE: How is your local DJ scene?

The local DJ scene in Tunisia is vibrant and growing, despite the challenges we face. There is a strong sense of community among DJs and producers, all of whom are passionate about pushing the boundaries of our music. We have a variety of underground events where we can showcase our talents and share our music with enthusiastic audiences. These events are crucial for the growth of our scene, providing a platform for both established and upcoming artists. The support within the community is immense, with everyone encouraging each other to improve and innovate. The scene is definitely on an upward trajectory, and I am excited to see how it continues to develop….

Thank you so much for accepting ECLYPSE’s invite, we are looking forward to promoting your music in the future on our label, we are honored to have you here!
