ECLYPSE INVITES: SSSLUMBER

Today is a big day for ECLYPSE. The wait is finally over, the time has passed and we are pleased to announce that SSSLUMBER is taking reign over this week’s ECLYPSE INVITES Podcast series.

We are overjoyed to showcase the first (and certainly not the last) woman DJ on our label. Hailing from Nicosia, capital of the Island of Cyprus, SSSLUMBER will guide you through a dark auditory realm.

SSSLUMBER’s sonic journey began in 2021 as a curious enquiry into states of existing and experiencing on the dancefloor. Drawing inspiration from her deep connection to ambient and experimental music, she transforms this enquiry into a canvas for her artistic expression.

Infused with rich industrial textures and featuring fast, heavy kicks, SSSLUMBER’s sound aspires to craft a dynamic interplay, where audacious fervor intertwines with dark, immersive and esoteric soundscapes. She hopes to allow the listener to delve into their own dreamlike experience, encouraging them to surrender to wherever it may take them.

ECLYPSE: Could you please describe your local Industrial Techno scene for us?

The impact of Cyprus’s industrial scene on me is truly beyond words. This is where it all started for me. Over the past two years, I’ve witnessed incredible growth within this tight-knit community, firmly establishing itself as a cornerstone of the underground scene on the island. This rise owes much to the unwavering dedication of the 565R crew, whose vision and tireless efforts sparked this industrial renaissance and has been instrumental in shaping and dominating the local scene. Equally deserving of recognition is CYRAVELAND (Cyprus Rave Community), which has spearheaded the broader underground techno movement in recent years.

From warehouse raves to sick outdoor afters, every experience has been a testament to the boundless spirit of our scene. Amidst it all, I’ve encountered some of the most genuine and vibrant people from all over the world, some of whom I’ve made special bonds with. It’s a raw, unfiltered energy that defies comparison. I’m really looking forward to seeing how things go from here!

ECLYPSE: Could you describe your set for us and our listeners? What was the inspiration behind it?

I love playing with subtleties, which may sound ironic considering the genre, but I really enjoy building gradual layers, tension and energy into my sets. Coming from a more experimental background, I am to normalize more experimentation in hard/industrial techno sets, so I try to apply it as much as possible, although I have to admit I haven’t explored it as extensively as I’d like. So my vision for this mix is to intertwine sounds/noise from different realms and merge them with the usual fast and heavy kicks.

My inspiration for any set usually comes from whatever I’m experiencing in real life at the time – it’s most likely my attempt to make sense of it all through sound. When I initially bring together all the different sounds on one screen, it usually appears disjointed and chaotic. Yet slowly it just starts taking shape through relentless and obsessive trial and error – I will usually obsessively listen to it over and over and over until it resonates, but on rare occasions  I try (really hard) to just go with the flow of the moment and not to get fixated on the details. Trusting the process that it will all come together and it will tell a story – I try to leave the story open to interpretation; the listener can extract their own meaning from it.

Thank you so much for accepting ECLYPSE’s invite, we are looking forward to promoting your music in the future on our label, we are honored to have you here!
